The Geeksphone Revolution is now available for purchase directly from Geeksphone’s site for €222 ($305). The mid-range device is significant in that sense that it can boot into Android or Firefox OS; other than that, it’s a rather mediocre phone with specs that include a 4.7-inch IPS screen with qHD (540×960 pixels) resolution, Intel Atom dual-core chip clocked at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera on the back, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 2,000mAh battery and 4GB of internal memory.Even though the same amount of cash can get you a better Android handset, that unit won’t be able to run Firefox OS, which in the Revolution’s case is started with a simple 1-touch system. The way I see it, this is ideal device for developers who get to test their apps across multiple platforms. While Firefox OS has a long road ahead to get close to Android, Mozilla has great plans for it with the idea to first bring it to the emerging markets and then grow from there. We’ll see how that goes and in the meantime, you can order the Geeksphone Revolution from here.
