Moto G Google Play edition with Android 4.4 Kitkat goes on sale

A STOCK ANDROID VERSION of the Moto G handset has been added to the Google Play store, offering punters an unskinned version of the smartphone that runs Android 4.4 Kitkat.
The Moto G Google Play edition is presently available only in the US, with British shoppers being greeted with the message that the device is not yet available in the country. Those after a budget stock Android smartphone in the US, however, can order the Moto G from the Google Play store now, with the 8GB model priced at $179 and the 16GB model priced at $199.Neither Google nor Motorola has announced whether the Moto G Google Play edition will be released globally.
This new Motorola Moto G smartphone is nearly identical to the version we reviewed, except for its upgraded Android 4.4 Kitkat mobile operating system and vanilla Android user interface, which means this phone is likely to receive software updates ahead of its more expensive competitors.
Beyond that, buyers will find the same 4in 1280x720 resolution HD 720p display powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM. The budget handset also features a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, a 2,070mAh battery and HSDPA and WiFi connectivity.
The release of the Moto G Google Play edition comes just days after Motorola began its Android 4.4 Kitkat rollout for the handset, with the update arriving on our unlocked model this morning. It also comes a day after Motorola announced that its flagship Moto X smartphone will be coming to Europe, with a UK release date scheduled for 1 February.
